44-year-old woman dies as speeding driver crashes into culvert – Guyana newsroom

A 44-year-old woman from Green Field, East Coast Demerara died Monday in an accident along Hand-En-Veldt Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Shazi Hoosain; The police headquarters reported that the accident happened just after midnight.

According to the police report, Hoosain was one of four occupants of the PJJ 485 car when it lost control and crashed into a culvert.

The car was driven by Saif Arjune, 22, who police say was speeding. A breathalyzer revealed that his blood alcohol level was 0.186% and 0.183%. This technically means that Arjune may have had a drink before driving.

Arjune was heading east along the road around 12:15 a.m. when he lost control. Arjune was injured along with two other occupants who were identified as Arfeen Arjune, 19, and a 16-year-old boy.

They were all taken to Mahaicony Cottage Hospital by police ranks where Hoosain was pronounced dead.

Arfeen and the 16-year-old boy, who broke his right leg, were later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital.

Hoosain’s body was taken to Jerrick’s Funeral Home pending an autopsy.

Further investigations are ongoing.
