Body found floating in canal

LAHORE: The putrefied body of a man was found in the Haier Police District Canal on Sunday.

Residents informed the police after seeing the body of an unknown person floating in the BRB canal near the village of Karbath in the Haier police zone. The police arrived at the scene and, with the help of Edhi volunteers, removed the body from the canal and transported it to the morgue. The deceased was identified as Fraz, a resident of Anarkali.

Youngster dies on the road: A 14-year-old cyclist died of head injuries after his high-speed bike crashed on a trail over the Garhi Shahu Bridge on Sunday.

The boy identified as Hamza Yaqoob was riding his bike without a helmet. Eyewitnesses told police that Hamza rode the bike at high speed in a zigzag fashion, which caused him to lose control of his bike and he skidded. As the bike fell, he was thrown onto a curb, sustaining serious head injuries. He was pronounced dead by doctors at a nearby hospital.

Unconscious man dies: An unidentified man died at a local hospital on Sunday, two days after he was found unconscious in the Garden Town police area.

Police say an unidentified 55-year-old man was taken to hospital in an unconscious state from the Garden Town area two days ago. The police transported the body to the morgue.

275 road accidents in the city: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 1,035 road accidents in the 37 districts of Punjab in the past 24 hours.

In these road accidents, 16 people died, while 1082 were injured. Of these, 625 people were seriously injured while 457 minor injuries were treated at the site of the incident by emergency medical teams.

Statistics show that 275 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 285 people placing the provincial capital at the top of the list followed by 69 Faisalabad with 72 casualties and third Multan with 68 road accidents and 76 casualties.

Motorcycles are involved in the majority (65%) of traffic accidents. Cyclists should remember that effective traffic enforcement and lane discipline are key to reducing the growing number of road accidents. Furthermore, the analysis showed that 462 drivers, 24 underage drivers, 160 pedestrians and 476 passengers were among the victims of these road accidents.

The details further reveal that 1082 victims were affected by road accidents, including 896 men and 202 women.

According to the data, 887 motorcycles, 96 auto-rickshaws, 131 automobiles, 25 vans, 6 passenger buses, 34 trucks and 116 other types of motor vehicles and slow carts were involved in the aforementioned traffic accidents.
