AMHERST – A donation of $ 5,000 from financial planning firm Hadley and a contribution of $ 1,000 from BankESB enables the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce to increase the value of holiday gift cards and l investment residents can make in the local economy.

Starting Friday, people can purchase $ 25 gift cards with a $ 1 processing fee that will double in value after matches. An individual is limited to the purchase of two $ 25 gift cards.

Paired Gift Cards will only be sold at the Visitor Information Center at 35 South Pleasant St., which is open weekdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Molly Keegan, co-owner of financial advisers Curran & Keegan, said her company’s giveaway was to encourage local buying.

“Forget the big Internet mail order retailers and enjoy the fun of shopping at the stores of our friends and neighbors,” Keegan said.

Gift cards can be used at 32 local businesses, including retail stores like Zanna, The Toy Box, and Provisions; restaurants like Pasta e Basta, Osteria Vespa, and The Works Bakery and Cafe; and service-oriented venues, such as Amherst Dog Wash, Global Cuts, and The Lift Salon.

The contributions come as COVID-19 challenges remain for businesses, Claudia Pazmany, executive director of the chamber, said in a statement.

“The Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce launched the gift card program at the height of our pandemic with the goal of supporting them and helping them keep their doors open,” Pazmany said. “As a serious shortage of personnel continues to weigh on our businesses, we knew we had to activate the purchasing power of buying locally. ”

The program is similar to that launched by the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce following a donation of $ 10,000 from Scott and Jill Keiter of Keiter Builders.

Those who purchase the Amherst gift cards, during the game, will receive two red tickets to the red ticket draw for four cash prizes of $ 250 and one cash prize of $ 1,000. This draw will take place on December 18 at 3 p.m. at Kendrick Park.
