Donations of furniture are no longer allowed in Goodwill stores
WAUKESHA, WI – Goodwill will no longer accept donations of furniture or large exercise equipment, according to the Goodwill website.
The new policy went into effect on Monday.
These items will no longer be available for purchase as of December 1, the website said.
Goodwill has a location in Waukesha at 1400 Nike Dr.
“It’s hard to say ‘no thanks’ to a donation when those donations help fund goodwill programs. However, we must refuse certain items because they are not recyclable or contain hazardous materials. Other times the item has to be refused because it costs more to transport, repair or refurbish than it can be sold in our stores, ”the website said.
The website said it couldn’t accept:
- Mattresses and bed frames
- Desks or other office furniture
- Tables of all kinds
- Dressers, bookcases, entertainment centers, etc.
- Chairs, stools or sofas
- Great exercise equipment
- Pianos or organs
- CRT televisions and CRT computer monitors
- Large appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, ranges / ovens and washers / dryers.
Goodwill still accepts lightly worn clothing, shoes, jewelry, winter accessories, books and more. Visit the website to see what Goodwill will accept.
Habitat ReStore, which has a location in Waukesha, will always take unused furniture.
