Jeff Holtz wins 50 lap final at Slinger

Slinger, Wis., July 24—Jeff Holtz and Zach Prunty staged an intense battle for the lead in most 50-lap Uptown Motorcars Pro Late Model feature Sunday night at Slinger Speedway before Holtz took the win, then took the win on a quick-closure from Jordan DeVoy.

Holtz and Prunty spent the first half of the race advancing to the front of the pack as Jake Vanoskey, Billy Braun and Jakob Hassler all took turns leading the race. Prunty fought his way into the lead just after halfway and Holtz followed in his footsteps and fought for the top spot soon after. Prunty and Holtz traded the lead for several laps before Holtz took sole possession of the lead, using the inside groove to pass Prunty as DeVoy methodically closed in on the leaders. DeVoy managed to pass Prunty for second in the final laps and started closing in on Holtz to take the lead. Holtz proved too strong, however, and he raced to victory over DeVoy and Prunty.

“It was a lot of fun racing with Zach (Prunty) and I know we traded a little paint,” Holtz said from victory lane, “But that’s racing. It was a really good night because I haven’t been at my best the last two outings here, but we finally got back together tonight.

“We were doing our best and I knew I had to get on the right track,” DeVoy explained afterwards. “None of the lanes were moving and once they started to single file we were able to do a good charge forward.”

“I changed a lot during the week although I probably shouldn’t have, but I got bored of having the week off,” Prunty said after leading laps and finishing third, “The Practices were good and qualifying wasn’t so good we left it alone for the playoff race and we didn’t like it then but we made some adjustments and the car was good in functionality .

Tom Berens finished in fourth place and Tyler Hromadka rode a solid race taking the checkered flag in fifth. Ryan Gutknecht was sixth and Jakob Hassler was seventh after leading early laps. Matt Urban also challenged for the lead early before finishing eighth while Mitch DelCamp and Zach Braun were ninth and tenth respectively.

Mitch DelCamp earned his first career win in the first Pro Late Model qualifying race while Jakob Hassler took the top honors in the second qualifying race. Tom Berens was the fastest qualifier after setting a lap time of 12.134 seconds.

Paul Reagles edged out Brandon Tackes by less than a car length to win the thrilling 25-lap Super Beez race. Colin Saegert finished third, followed by Al Strobel and Todd Buckley fourth and fifth respectively. Derek Hoerig and Al Strobel were the winners of the Super Beez qualifying races and Todd Buckley was the fastest qualifier with a lap time of 13.800 seconds.

Ricky Gebhard won the 25-round Slinger Bee main event against Tom Elsinger Jr. and Brandon Mennicke. Tracy Neu and Misty Benn rounded out the top five. Al Strobel won the first Slinger Bee heat race and Dylan Lemberger won the second heat race. Misty Benn took top honors in qualifying with a lap of 15.211 seconds.

Joshua Zacharias used a late charge to pass Mark Fogel Jr. for the lead late in the Slinger Sixers’ 15-lap final en route to victory. Brandon Gumm was third and Rick Buss was fourth. Brian Gardner took the checkered flag in fifth place. Mark Fogel Jr. won the Slinger Sixers qualifying race and the fast qualifying honors went to Joshua Zacharias with a qualifying time of 15.910 seconds.

Kurt Kleven drove his 1975 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to victory in the Spectator Eliminator races as he edged out Carl Trapp in his Chevy Nova for the win. Nick Ostberg drove to victory in the Figure 8 event which closed out the night.
