LA County Sheriff employee killed, woman injured after vintage sports car slams into pole in Temple City – CBS Los Angeles


TEMPLE CITY (CBSLA) – A man employed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was killed and a woman was injured when a vintage muscle car crashed into a lamp post in Temple City early Thursday morning.

The accident involving a replica of the Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster car happened at 2:10 a.m. at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Freer Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the car carrying two people was heading north on Santa Anita when the LASD employee lost control on a turn. The car crashed into a median, then struck a traffic sign and a light pole.

The driver was thrown from the car, which has no roof, and died at the scene, the CHP said. The 28-year-old passenger was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. No name has been disclosed.

The deceased driver is a LASD employee, CBSLA has learned.

“We heard the impact, actually we heard the acceleration, then the impact… His girlfriend, I guess a loved one, was hysterical,” Witness Ervin Seniours said. “We didn’t know if he was an assistant or if her uncle was an assistant, she kept saying it. She was trying to revive him, or at least help him, help him. And we were trying to calm her down. And I called 911.

The victim’s body was escorted by 14 LASD patrol vehicles to the LA County Coroner’s office, as is customary following the death of a colleague in the department.

The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. It is not known if both were wearing seat belts or if they were alcohol or drugs.
