Roanoke Salvation Army makes final push for year-end donations

ROANOKE, Virginia – As 2021 draws to a close, nonprofits are making a final push for year-end donations.

While bells and red kettles are no longer outside of neighborhood grocery stores, there are still ways to give to The Salvation Army.

“I would recommend that you just call your local Salvation Army and ask what their needs are and see what you can do to help them. We are all in trouble. We are a big army and we are all fighting to be able to meet the needs of the community, ”said Captain Russel Clay of the Salvation Army in Roanoke.

The organization’s annual goal is to raise $ 150,000; however, this year it was more difficult to reach that mark.

“COVID is not just affecting us, but every other nonprofit in the region. It is therefore a difficult challenge for each group. So we’re all trying to find a way to expand what we have and make the most of it, ”Clay said.

If you are strapped for cash, there are other ways to help.

“We need donations of all kinds. Whether it’s clothes, food, or just money, ”Clay said. “We can use whatever you have,” he said.

Donations made to 501 (c) (3) organizations like The Salvation Army can be claimed as tax deductible. Donating is good for you, while having an impact on others.

“We all depend on the community to help us fund and do these programs. So I would say please donate and help your community help those in need, ”said Clay.
