Safety promoted at Lumberton first responder car show
LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – A car show for first responders was held in Lumberton on Saturday. Some first responders took the opportunity to promote safety.
âWe believe in reaching out to the community,â said Lumberton Fire Department training chief Eddie Cox. Lumberton firefighters have set up a bicycle safety course and a hot car display with s’mores in the window.
âIn about an hour, we’ll be handing out s’mores to everyone to show how hot the interior of the car is,â Cox said. âThese are the same effects that are caused to children when they are left in the vehicle. The organizers wanted to give the public the chance to interact with first responders and do something positive for the community.
âWe’re tired of the TV turning on and that’s always bad news. We want the television on and there is good news about it, âsaid co-host Jamie Hunt. âRobeson County has been tough on the crime rate, the murders and everything. We just want to change that, make it a positive vibe here. The show featured vendors, tricycle races and classic cars.
âSee all the cars, see how amazing they are, and I love their decoration,â said tricycle racer JJ Penalba. The event was organized by Top That Dessert bar and MPR automobile club.
